The process: This experiment was only a test of converting binary to hexadecimal, coding that in Verilog, and displaying the result on a DE2 board. After demonstrating my board to the 281 teaching assistant, I decided to have a little fun with it. I formulated a way to produce the word "beef", "face", and "deaf". Some might say I had too much fun with this assignment. On the contrary, I think visually seeing my code work was a beautiful thing. My role: This lab was on my own. I programmed the board, and operated the switches. The skills: I developed my knowledge of Verilog programming language. The environment: Working at a computer desk with the Cyclone board. The reward: The ability to generate and display 0-9 and A-F character strings.
